Spam has become a major problem for anyone with an email address and efforts have been made to protect this host from getting spam.

Spam Assassin

Spam Assassin has been configured with Sendmail using Procmail for all users. The mail will be tested for various spam-like traits and if all goes well a great deal more of unwanted mail will be blocked. Mail that is likely spam will include a header X-Spam-Status with a value of Yes. Most mail clients can use that value to filter the spam automatically.

Another header, X-Spam-Level, will include a rating in the form of stars. The more stars the more likely it is spam. Anything above 6 stars will be discarded by the server while anything above 5 stars will be held on the server. All other mail will continue along with the added X-Spam headers which can be used by filters in most mail clients.

Spam Trap

A spam trap is now in place for Offwhite.net which will capture unsolicited and unwanted email and attempt to block mail coming to the server. Work to automate the blocking mail from sources sending mail to the spam trap must be done to make it more effective.
